We promote music – Hans Thomann Foundation

In 1954, Hans Thomann Sr. founded Musikhaus Thomann in the small village of Treppendorf near Burgebrach in northern Bavaria. At the time, it was one of very few outlets where musical instruments were available in the area. Walking in his father’s footsteps, Hans Jr., the present CEO and a passionate musician, realized early on that making music makes for great connections, and that it can engage young people in particular.

The Thomann family has always translated business success into great social responsibility – not only for their about 1,000 staff and more than 5m customers, but also and especially for children and teenagers whose discovery of music is hindered by social barriers and lack of financial resources.

Taking the natural next step, Hans Thomann Jr. established the Hans Thomann Foundation in September 2012.

Its guiding ideal is first and foremost to engage children and teenagers in music and to enable them to discover the sheer joy and variety making music can bring to their lives. By providing instruments, funding instruction, and sponsoring student bursaries, the Foundation demonstrates its long-term commitment.

Continuing support for projects over extended periods of time ensures that the funds distributed are targeted properly and that support through the Hans Thomann Foundation achieves sustainable ends.
