Musicians for a better Life e.V.
Is a registered charity headquartered in Munich which launches music projects with children and young adults in socially deprived locations in various countries. The shared language of music brings together people from a variety of ethnic and social groups. Its aim is to establish local structures and networks of musicians across the world, establishing working with music sustainably as a basis for development work. The University of Music and Performing Arts Munich has taken on the role of patron of Musicians for a better life e.V. in 2018. Students and musicians of the university volunteer in our projects and share their knowledge while being able to gain important and formative experience themselves. Music builds bridges, and helps us in setting up innovative structures for tomorrow’s world.
MUSIC TRAINING CENTER FOR TANSANIA
In the course of our workshops in Tanzania, we noticed that while there is a lot of young musical talent in East Africa, there is a distinct lack of college and university teachers in the area of Western Style Music. Most students teach themselves using Youtube.
Musicians for a better life e.V. and the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich have signed a treaty of friendship with the College of Arts in Bagamoyo.
Since 2018, students from the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich have been teaching piano, drums, guitar, e-bass, singing and music production classes at the College of Arts in Bagamoyo in their term breaks as volunteers. Music production skills in particular offer greatly improved chances of employment in East Africa, and the Tanzanian students’ interest is as great as their raw potential.
Unfortunately, the college has only one music room, in which all students must practice at the same time. There are only few instruments for a large number of students. These insufficient conditions do not do justice to the young people’s abilities.
In order to improve these conditions, we, the Musicians for a better life e.V. have decided to set up a Music Training Center at the Bagamoyo College of Arts and Culture. This Music Training Center offers us the opportunity focus on training disseminators for the whole country and others in East Africa.

In 2020, we will take the instruments to Tanzania after the renovation of the building there has been completed, and set up the rooms for the Training Center.
