The 5th MaiFestivalYoung took place from 5-7 May 2023 in Rellingen and Pinneberg under the overall direction of pianist Simone Anders (artistic responsibility: Sabine Maria Schoeneich, Managing Director Heiko Büter, Little Opera) and was kindly supported by regional sponsors. This competition for young up-and-coming musicians aged 6-21 was held in parallel at three locations (Gut Thesdorf Country House, Little Opera Studio Stage and Rellingen Church) on three days. The competition presented a logistical challenge, among other things regarding the warm-up rooms and performance rooms.

Our location “Little Opera Studio Stage” was ideally organized this year due to our new spatial possibilities on two floors and the electric piano provided by the Hans Thomann Foundation for our new room, which met with great enthusiasm.

150 participants (piano, violin, flute, voice, trumpet) from all over Germany in the “classical” and “popular” categories and at 3 levels (starter, junior and master class) showed some remarkable performances, which were entertainingly moderated in the final concert of the special prize winners in the Rellingen church.

All in all, it was a celebration of encounter and exchange. Scholarships, sponsorships and cash awards will support these talented young musicians on their further path. The participants will continue to learn with motivation and will certainly be happy to come back.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for this helpful and direct support. The MaiFestivalYoung www.mf-young.de/Wettbewerb is hoped to become a sustainable and permanent institution.

The 6th MaifestivalYoung 2024 is expected to take place at the beginning of May 2024.
