Rupert Egenberger School in Lebenshilfe Amberg’s remedial edcuation centre (HPZ)

Instrument lessons have been offered as an extracurricular activtiy at Rupert Egenberger school for thirty years.

Veeh harp, piano, keyboard, recorder, flute, or drums – our students with mental handicaps have a choice on which instrument they wish to follow their passion for music. Since the lessons are mainly one-on-one, the children can be assisted in ways entirely suitable to their individual needs. In addition to learning the instrument itself, the lessons support many ancillary skills: concentration, close attention, hand-eye coordination and many more.

In individual and ensemble lessons, the focus changes between playing from sheet music, playing by ear, playing together, or discovering new sound experiences – depending on the students’ skill levels.

The main objective is always the enjoyment of music – there are no grades in these classes!
But for some, enjoying music is not an option normally, since their parents would have to provide the instrument – and this is becoming harder and harder for some families these days.
Since December 2014, four talented and enthusiastic pupils (see pictures) have been receiving support from the Hans Thomann Foundation and are very happy that they can continue their classes.
