On the school’s own initiative, the Faus secondary school is setting up a modern and well-conceived suite for the use of various groups from the fields of music production, video production and dealing with modern media as part of school digitization.

Since 2021, the idea for a modern studio concept has been developing with the support of the school management, committed teachers, and student body representatives as well as the “Friends of the School” association and volunteers from the music and media industry:

In cooperation with the music and video producer Michael Schneider from Staufen, conditions have been created in the school’s former bicycle cellar, which had already been used as a rehearsal room and recording studio that allow for setting up a new and modern studio for media productions. In the first round of donations in the 2021/2022 school year, funds for the basic facilities were collected from regional companies and sponsors. A second fundraising campaign, planned for spring 2023, is intended to enable us to acquire further technical facilities.

Music production and video production of all genres, the basics of media design and at the same time the use of modern media are accompanied and taught here. Technical equipment for preparing students to use media and thus participation is provided in these rooms for an age-appropriate encounter with the technology and the topics of the different school years. Dedicated teachers and freelancers from the industry offer innovative and didactically well-founded instruction in the interactive use of media and the tools of media production under the patronage of the Faust Gymnasium. The first steps and the basis for media design are initiated in an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented manner.

In the media studio of the Faust-Gymnasium, the interest and talent of students can be developed while encouraging them to also consider career prospects in the media, in agencies and in industry and thus continuing their academically sound training in the field of conception, design and implementation of digital media.

This is done both through music making by school bands and music projects that rehearse on the premises, as well as through song writing/composition and through music production using up-to-date software, sound and video recordings in the great outdoors (field recording), audio book production, recording and post-production of the school big band and the school choir, the practical and interactive introduction to event technology, which is implemented directly with students, as well as video production in the field of music, documentation and contribution design in areas yet to be developed.

For the students’ working groups, support is available from the industry and provided by musicians, but also by representatives of other areas of cultural production and media experts.

Our basic concern in all our work is always to accompany the young people in the modern media world on the one hand and to make an important contribution to personality development on the other, without framing it in terms of academic achievement.
