100 Musicians – 100 Donors
An initiative of junge norddeutsche philharmonie (young philharmonic of northern germany)
Since 2010, the junge norddeutsche philharmonie (jnp) has been receiving great praise as one of the most aspiring projects for young musicians in Germany.
Music students at Northern Germany‘s Music Academies come together in this trans-regional network project in order to put on innovative and energetic concerts. Creative event formats, music beyond the boundaries of genre, distinguished conductors and soloists, flat hierarchies, and a high degree of participation are the young orchestra’s defining characteristics, and have helped it become an integral component of Germany’s cultural landscape.
This year’s central project is the Summer Project from July 27 to August 14, 2016: more than 100 musicians will deliver shared high-energy efforts daily, be able to focus their unlimited concentration on music, and treat themselves and their audiences to unusually intensive concert experiences. Sustained rehearsal days from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., the many do-it-yourself events and the no-frills accommodation in a school create the unique and decisive sense of cohesion in the orchestra: their joy of playing and passion will imbue not least the most important football tournament in Northern Germany’s cultural calendar with something special.
The project, conceived around Igor Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring”, is characterized by innovative concert formats, which recently have even bridged the distance between classical and electronic music. The young and charismatic Altstaed brothers and the young world-class violinist Vilde Frang as well as the younger but no less fascinating Julian Maier-Hauff and Marco Mlynek are the icing on this musical cake, which is imbued with the aura of classical music – and little bit of Woodstcok, too!
The project 100 musicians – 100 donors! has been launched to support this excellent orchestra and to assist young musicians on their way to becoming professional performers. The initiatives provides free-of-charge accommodation and catering to the musicians for the duration of the project. This also supports the continuing further development of the orchestra.
As part of the jnp 2016 summer project, the Hans Thomann Foundation is sponsoring the young percussionist Tobias Hegele. Tobias has been studying music at Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media since 2012. Alongside a great variety of concert experience, among others with the Brunswick State Theatre, the Kassel State Theatre and the South Westphalia Philharmonic, he focuses on chamber music in particular.
