We, the music school Das Ohr (“The Ear”) e.V., have been active in Cologne for several years now. This music school is an association that serves as an umbrella for 7 freelance musicians and music educators to ensure the operation of a music school on an equal footing. Thanks to our motivated team of music teachers, we can reach a wide variety of people of all ages with our instrument lessons. The aim is always to awaken the musical curiosity and joy of our students and to work on their talents individually. We want to open ways for children, young people and adults to develop musically.

The Hans Thomann Foundation’s donations were primarily intended to allow us to host band rehearsals and other group activities, so that our students can not only enjoy singing and instrument lessons, but also ensemble and band work. However, we used to lack some instruments and technical equipment for this.

Thanks to your instrument donation, we have been able to equip our music school with more musical instruments and modern sound technology. In this way, we have achieved our goal of enabling a choir, a band and group music-making. The donation helped us not only to teach music in individual lessons, but also to sing, make music, speak, perform and prepare joint performances. The results are presented at regular concerts the school runs as open events, for example at the summer concert before the end of the school year or in December as a winter concert.

With the instrument donation by the Hans Thomann Foundation, we have been able to make a number of ideas come true and, above all, they have enormously enrich our concert life by allowing us to form ensembles for the students.
