At the Findorff senior secondary school in Bremen, we have been offering students the opportunity to learn a new instrument for many years. In addition to the instruments club, the skills students acquire there can be quickly applied in the big band and band clubs and school musicals (the picture shows current production “The Commune of the Red Coral”).

There is great interest in these extracurricular activities, and many students continue to play their instruments beyond the first few years and stay musically involved in school life. In the summer of 2023, we again had many new 5th-year students who wanted to learn an instrument. Since our partly very old instrument inventory did not suffice to meet the demand, we turned to the Hans Thomann Foundation.

It was great to experience how quickly and unbureaucratically we were provided with a new saxophone and a new flute. This enabled everyone to play their desired instrument in the next generation.
