Händel Secondary School
As a school orchestra at the music-oriented school with an ensemble focus, the Berlin Youth Symphony Orchestra at the Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gymnasium (Jugendsinfonieorchester – JSO) offers young musicians the opportunity to experience intensive orchestra work in everyday school life. It is made up of about 60 to 70 students from years nine to twelve of the secondary, who make music at a high level in regular rehearsals and concerts.
The focus of the work of the JSO and its musical direction is not only on the development of concert programs but also on strengthening the sense of community through positive shared (musical) experiences. Regular rehearsal trips, concert tours and concerts are held at changing performance venues in Berlin. This is often associated with high transport costs. For this reason, we are extremely grateful that the Hans Thomann Foundation is supporting us with an orchestral carillon. Our old carillon, which this new one will replace, is difficult to transport and no longer stable. The new instrument offers is quick and easy to transport, apart from also being a significant improvement in terms of sound.
We are therefore very pleased with and grateful for this generous support from the Hans Thomann Foundation, which means that we now have a very good instrument available in the percussion section of the orchestra. This renders making music even more fun!
