Klangstrolche – Music for every child
Since 2007, the project “Klangstrolche (Sound Rascals) – Music for every child” has been committed to equal opportunities and educational opportunities for children aged 0-6 years, focusing on musical education from the very beginning. The Klangstrolche offering include various event formats, the Klangstrolche conferences (workshop series for children), which take place twice a year in Billstedt, and the summit meeting in the Laeiszhalle, our big benefit concert, which takes place once a year. The Klangstrolche also provide music education staff for music classes in daycare centres and other childcare facilities
A total of about 2,000 children are involved in the project as Klangstrolche and, in addition to weekly music lessons, also have access our the programme of events (children’s theatre, children’s cinema, concerts) of the Kultur Palast Foundation. We are very grateful that the Hans Thomann Foundation has given us the opportunity to present the children with a wide selection of instruments. This is particularly important because the children participating have different cultural backgrounds, and we can create not only diversity in the musical landscape but also associations with their own culture and origin through a variety of different instruments.
The musical instruments are mainly used in classes for early musical development of the Klangstrolche as well as at events. The less common instruments, such as the Shruti Box, the Darbuka and the large frogs, are particularly popular at instrument workshops, where children aged 1-6 can try out all the musical instruments available and compose their own songs.
The accessories for the musical instruments and the keyboard were eagerly awaited by the music educators in the project. Donated guitars have received new strings and straps, and the footstools can also be used as seats.
All instruments expand the pool of the Klangstrolche to provide valuable opportunities for children to gain sensual experiences that are not available to them in their everyday lives and to open up the world of music to them in a playful and hands-on way.
