A heartfelt thank you to the Hans Thomann Foundation for their support in setting up our media centre.

The Media Centre has been a service within the Open Social Services of Diakonie Schweinfurt since 2023.

Competence in using digital media is an integral part of all areas of life in our society. Developments in information and communication technology and the ongoing digitisation of work processes, communication channels and everyday activities are accompanied by a wide range of changes to processes in social interaction and in competence requirements. In order to give all citizens the chance to actively participate in social life, media literacy is essential.

It is the aim of the Media Centre to promote media skills in all age groups through active media work. To this end, the centre offers children, young people, families and seniors space to engage in and move through media. They learn to use digital media in a self-determined, reflective, creative and goal-oriented way. These offers include: classic cultural techniques such as reading and writing and other creative techniques, the digital and electronic offerings (film, sound, photography), the use of computers and software, 3D printers and AR and VR glasses, as well as the examination and use of the latest developments in the field of AI.

In this way, the media centre makes a social contribution to expanding opportunities of participation, cultural engagement and poverty prevention.

The offers are intended to be available to all interested parties – regardless of educational status or age. In keeping with our focus on the effects of poverty, the Diakonisches Werk takes care to ensure that the use of the services does not fail due to financial requirements.

Thanks to the Hans Thomann Foundation’s donation in kind, we can expand our range of services. Thank you very much!
