NO BORDERS
Brief description
“NO BORDERS!” was the first in a series of benefits launched by Con-Action Fürth Youth Culture Management, with 100 per cent of proceeds going to refuges who have found a new home in Fürth. In addition to an interesting and varied musical programme performed by bands from England and Germany, there were a number of interesting spoken contributions, for example from Christian Mäxler, refugee officer of the City of Nuremberg, who shared his experiences of his daily work with refuges, and of their suffering, in a very emotional speech. He was also available to answer questions for the whole duration of the evening, an offer that many interested attendants took up.
The high point of the evening came when musical instruments worth about 450 euros were presented to Peter Eckert. Peter Eckert works as a teacher for German as a second language and music for child refugees at Fürth vocational school. The instruments will make his work much easier, and the children and teenagers he works with will benefit from them directly. At the next “No Borders!” event (probably in spring 2015), the child and teenage refugees themselves are scheduled to perform with the donated instruments.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Musikhaus Thomann for their generous donation – we are well aware that such generosity is by no means a given these days.
